NiTasha was born in Florida, but doesn't have much recollection of the first few years of her life. She was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her left eye and by the time she was 8 years old she had been through seven surgeries to help her vision. NiTasha speaks very little about her father, but vividly recalls early years with her mother, who suffered from Schizophrenia. NiTasha's mother was unable to provide the family with much stability so they moved several times across state lines to be with extended family. Ultimately, NiTasha and her four siblings wound up in Foster Care. Her first placement separated her from her siblings, leaving her frightened and alone. She was brie y reunited with her siblings, but not in a stable environment, so again she was placed away from her siblings.
After years of moving from foster home to foster home, NiTasha is now living with a loving family, with a foster mother who supports her. NiTasha carries a rigorous academic load and is encouraged to play multiple sports. She loves gymnastics and basketball and volunteers at her church.
Over the years NiTasha lost the sight in her left eye. She sees an eye doctor regularly to monitor her glaucoma and works hard daily to prevent blindness in her right eye. Despite losing vision, she sees a bright future for herself. NiTasha dreams of being reunited with her mother and siblings one day. She is con dent and feels motivated to succeed, with hopes of becoming a physical therapist or a sports medicine physician; NiTasha is determined to beat the odds.
