Los Angeles County Office of Reentry and Diversion hosted an event last week to celebrate and inform juvenile justice stakeholders about a new model that will redirect resources to prevent young people’s involvement or further involvement in the justice system.
About 400 people attended the event – Youth Diversion & Development Summit: Understanding Los Angeles County’s New Model to Help Youth Thrive & Succeed – co-sponsored by Children's Defense Fund–California and others, and held at Carson Community Center.
Participants included community advocates, community residents, law enforcement and officials from the Department of Mental Health Services. Panelists, including our youth justice lead Patricia Soung, discussed the new model, how it will be implemented and what it will mean for youth and families.
