On May 15, Children’s Defense Fund-California, The Children’s Partnership and The Chronicle of Social Change co-hosted the nonpartisan event “Building Our Future: A Forum on Children with California’s Gubernatorial Candidates.” More than 600 people were in attendance, according to Sheriff's deputies, as candidates John Chiang, Delaine Eastin and Antonio Villaraigosa answered questions from the leaders of the three hosting organizations as well as several child and youth leaders.
Our friends at @KidsPartnership, @ChronicleSC & @cdfca, hosted a forum on children w/ CA’s gubernatorial candidates. At the forum, we asked the kids, “what was important to you?”. We got some pretty amazing and complex answers. #BuildingOurFuture2018 #Vote #Vota #CAPrimary pic.twitter.com/lP3RkSOpsd— California Endowment (@CalEndow) June 6, 2018
Highlights of what the candidates discussed can be found in The Chronicle of Social Change, and in the stories by our media partners, LA School Report and Los Angeles Daily News. Many youth journalists covered the forum, too, including the LA Times High School Insider and Long Beach's VoiceWaves. A video of the forum, shot by LA School Report and The 74, is also available.
If you attended, please let us know what you thought of the forum by filling out this survey.
