A healthy start to the new school year

Community Roundtable

This month, we brought together school health administrators, community clinics, and government agencies from throughout Los Angeles for a series of round-tables focused on the importance of school-based child health outreach.

The event was a part of our nationwide effort to identify, enroll, and retain children in free and affordable health care coverage. Participants shared effective health outreach and enrollment strategies, brainstormed solutions to common health care enrollment obstacles, and learned best practices for building and strengthening school-community partnerships.

We also updated attendees on a new state law that requires public schools provide parents or guardians information about health care coverage options and enrollment assistance.

Since 2010, we have partnered with districts in California, Texas and throughout the nation to develop school-based models that assist schools with identifying uninsured children and linking them with health coverage. Read more at: http://www.cdfca.org/programs/child-health-outreach/
