Now Accepting Los Angeles Beat the Odds® Scholarship Applications! 

 Deadline Extended to Monday, November 30, 2009!!

The Los Angeles Beat the Odds program seeks to honor high school juniors who--despite incredible adversity-- have excelled in school and who exhibit a passion for serving their community. Interested students must apply by nomination from a teacher, counselor, caseworker, coach, or other adult in the student’s life who can speak to his/her character, academic success, community involvement, and the tremendous odds he/she beats every day. All nomination packets must be completed and received or postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009.

 

Ten students will be selected and the top five finalists will be honored at CDF’s Annual Los Angeles Beat the Odds Awards in the fall of 2010. Selected students will also receive:

 

• Five finalists will each receive a $10,000 scholarship, intensive SAT preparation, case management services, career and college counseling assistance, access to CDF’s internship, service and job opportunities, leadership training courses, college visits, and other goods and services that will provide the finalists academic and personal support.

 

• Five semi-finalists will each receive a $1,000 scholarship, limited SAT preparation, college counseling services, and access to CDF’s network of internship, service and job opportunities.

 

To be considered for the Los Angeles Beat the Odds Scholarship Program, nominees must be high school juniors residing and/or attending school in Los Angeles County and work with a nominator to complete the nomination packet. Nominees must also demonstrate academic achievement/improvement and potential for post-secondary success. All nomination packets must be completed and received or postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009.
