Data on California Children
California Children’s Health Coverage
Due to recent California budget cuts and ongoing budget shortages in California, children’s health coverage in the state has suffered severe cuts threatning the health and well-being of children. Cuts to the FY 2009-10 state budget put nearly a million children throughout California in harm’s way by closing enrollment in the Healthy Families Program (California’s Children’s Health Insurance Program or CHIP) for the first time in the Program’s history. The recent events with the California state budget serve as a prime example of why national health care reform must end the lottery of geography and guarantee all children access to health care that is affordable, comprehensive, and easy to enroll and stay enrolled in. California Youth in the Prison Pipeline
CDF-CA's Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign, we have a variety of data displaying how many children are trapped in the pipeline. CDF-CA’s Cradle to Prison Pipeline Campaign was launched in February 2009 with the National/California Cradle to Prison Pipeline Summit and has continued through regional working groups and young adult advocate trainings throughout the state. A child can get pushed into the prison pipeline even before he or she is born and can put a child at risk throughout his of her lifetime. A child can be impacted by the prison pipeline in the areas of poverty, child welfare, early childhood education, health care, education, juvenile justice system/incarceration, community violence.
