"The Importance of Children's Health Coverage: Research and Stories from Working Californians"

CDF-California issues a new report (available by clicking on above link) on the critical need for children's health insurance. The Importance of Children's Health Coverage: Research and Stories from Working Californians provides an in depth look at children's health coverage throughout the state, highlighting the experiences of real California families as they try and access health care for their children.

Our nation has reached a critical junction in the national debate on health care for children. 2008 is the year in which we will either move forward towards comprehensive, affordable, children's health coverage in California, or begin to see a tragic increase in the number of uninsured children, some of whose stories are captured in this report.

CDF-California issues this report as a way to bring the voices of hard working American Families back into the state and national, political debate about health care reform.

We encourage you to use this report as a resource to help spread awareness about the need for children's health coverage this year.

"The Need to Streamline Benefits: Free Tax Assistance Sites Survey Results"

Children's Defense Fund-California (CDF-CA), in conjunction with the Greater Los Angeles (EITC) Campaign Partnership, released a new report entitled The Need to Streamline Benefits: Free Tax Assistance Sites Survey Results which makes recommendations to improve the quality of tax filing services and increase access to public benefit resources for hard working lower-income families in Los Angeles County.

This report provides details of a CDF-CA administered questionnaire where Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) recipients and users of free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites in Los Angeles County were surveyed about their tax filing and public benefits needs. The report compiles and analyzes these results and makes action recommendations to VITA site administrators, community leaders, and policy makers, suggesting ways to better serve hard working lower-income families in Los Angeles

If you would like a copy to this report mailed to you, please call (510) 663-3224 or email your request to jlima@cdfca.org.
